El Salvador's next presidential election will be held on February 28, 2027, the country's electoral tribunal said Wednesday, according to France 24 English.

The announcement clears the way for President Nayib Bukele to campaign for a third term, after constitutional amendments did away with limits on how many terms a president may serve.

Bukele's tenure has been marked by acclaim for a steep reduction in gang violence, alongside criticism of rights abuses committed during his security crackdown, France 24 English reported.
