Governor Gavin Newsom signed a set of laws on Wednesday meant to shield California employees from artificial intelligence, according to The Guardian US, covering concerns that range from workplace monitoring to jobs lost to automation.
One of the measures prohibits employers from using technology to infer how a worker feels by analyzing their biometric information.
Under another provision, companies must inform employees in writing when artificial intelligence is the reason for large-scale dismissals, and a further ban stops employers from leaning on AI to make the call to terminate a worker.
Newsom, a Democrat, was pointed in his criticism of Donald Trump, saying the president had not delivered comprehensive AI regulation at the federal level.
