Natan Kenig, an Israeli rescuer, says it takes only a small trigger for him to be carried back to the Hamas-led attack of October 7, 2023, which Al-Monitor describes as the deadliest ever mounted against Israel. Whether his eyes are open or shut, and whether he is at home or out among friends, he still sees rockets, burning cars and bodies with no life left in them.
"I saw atrocities. The most terrible things in the world," he said.
Three years later, Kenig remains traumatised, as are many others across the country, according to the Al-Monitor report. The flashbacks arrive every day, to the point that he has needed a therapist, he says.
