Jack London, one of the most prestigious American adventure writers, spent the winter of 1897 in the Klondike region of Alaska, where he arrived dragged by the gold rush. There he set some of his most famous stories: White Fang, The Call of the Wild, Bâtard (also called Diablo, depending on the edition). Stories often told from the point of view of the dogs accompanying those men who ventured, in the face of inclement weather and the harshness of the landscape, to walk on the wire between life and death, between hope and self-destruction, between the beauty of the landscape and the savagery of creation.
