Federal prosecutors say a fundraising effort that presented itself as humanitarian aid brought in $1.7 million for Hamas, including contributions from donors in the United States, CBS News reported.
Saleem Alzaq, a 45-year-old man from Gaza whom prosecutors allege has been a Hamas member for years, was charged with helping run the campaign, according to an indictment.
