César G., the man ABC España identifies as the parricide at the centre of its report, grew up in the Cuatro Vientos military colony, a neighbourhood he came back to for stretches as an adult. Residents there remember a normal boy, perhaps a little absent-minded, but with nothing about him they single out as particularly noteworthy.

His parents, César and María, set out to give him the best education they could, just as they had for his three older sisters, the newspaper recounts.

Something began to go wrong in adolescence, according to ABC, when smoking hash turned into his main habit. One of the boys who used to spend time with him in the nearby parks recalled: "He smoked a lot, although at that time we never saw anything strange."

The report's headline frames the case around drugs, extreme sex and serious psychiatric problems.
