Spain's minister of social rights, Pablo Bustinduy, spoke to El País straight after the Congress plenary on Friday voted down two housing decrees, and left no doubt about his anger at the right's vote against them.
Bustinduy, 43 and from Madrid, had been the minister charged with defending in the chamber the text that provided for the automatic extension of rental contracts. He acknowledged that he was tired after intense work over recent weeks.
"Junts's position is a political suicide," he said.
He would not be drawn on whether the prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, should call an election, but he warned that when the vote comes it will be a referendum on housing.
