Angela Wilkinson, secretary general of the World Energy Council (WEC), has called for energy regulation to be removed from political cycles, during an interview with ABC published on the occasion of her visit to Spain.
"Energy regulation must be taken out of political cycles," Wilkinson told ABC.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Wilkinson argues that Spain needs to rebalance its energy system in order to reach an integrated and resilient model, one in which generation, grids, storage, flexible demand and markets all work in a coordinated way.
The WEC secretary general frames the debate around the balance between security of supply, affordable prices and emissions reduction — a balance ABC says is shaping energy policies around the world against a backdrop of climate crisis, geopolitical tensions and the growth of artificial intelligence.
