Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey met officially while filming 'EdTV', according to ABC. That was before they became one of television's most memorable pairings in 'True Detective', and before they became inseparable friends who take holidays together with their families. The ABC piece returns to the long-running question of whether the two actors are actually brothers.
In a virtual meeting attended by ABC, McConaughey said he now believes Harrelson's version of how they first crossed paths, which places their meeting a year earlier than the film shoot — at a party thrown by the talent agency CAA, at one in the afternoon.
"Hey, McConaughey, how about a tequila shot?" ... "What harm can one little shot do?" — Matthew McConaughey, recounting to ABC how Harrelson approached him at the CAA party.
McConaughey said he demurred at first, noting it was one in the afternoon and he had things to do that day. He took the shot anyway — possibly more than one — and says he has no memory of meeting Harrelson, who he now suspects is right about the encounter.
He also remembers the sound of Harrelson's cycling shoes, cleats ringing on the concrete pavement even though he had no bicycle with him, before Harrelson arrived on set. The footwear, he said, was part of his daily clothing.
