Capt Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, the pilot celebrated for landing a US Airways passenger jet in the Hudson River during a 2009 emergency, has been inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame, according to The Guardian. He received the honor at a ceremony in Washington DC on Thursday.
The induction came two months after the 75-year-old went public with an Alzheimer's disease diagnosis.
Sullenberger is best known for bringing the disabled aircraft down safely in the river off New York City in 2009, an emergency landing that resulted in no loss of life and became widely known as the Miracle on the Hudson. The hall of fame recognition came 17 years after that landing.
