Close to 70 percent of Spaniards want an end to nationalizations carried out through the so-called 'ley de nietos', according to ABC España.
The finding arrives as the question of whether people naturalized by that route may vote sits at a critical stage in the courts, the outlet reports.
Election timing adds a further layer
President Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday that the general election will be brought forward to Sunday, November 29. According to ABC España, that decision opens a new political landscape across the country and introduces an extra element of difficulty into a matter that was already convoluted.
On September 8, acting on requests from Vox and Iustitia Europa, the Supreme Court agreed to suspend on a precautionary basis the vote of everyone who had acquired Spanish citizenship through this channel, ABC España reports. The move effectively halted their registration in the Electoral Census.
