Spain's central government has handed the country's autonomous communities a large share of the responsibility for carrying out its first housing royal decree-law, according to ABC. The Cabinet approved the text for a second time last Tuesday, after Congress had initially struck it down.
The regions will have to shoulder the compensation payments owed to property owners who are affected when their tenants fail to pay rent, the outlet reports.
Whether the planned regulation of seasonal rentals and of room rentals works in practice will also rest with the regional administrations, ABC says. The government has all but secured those measures in the Permanent Deputation of Congress.
ABC describes the three initiatives as among the most ambitious in the package and among those the government has highlighted most.
