The Liberal government intends to convert its Defence Investment Agency, established a year ago, into a Crown corporation, according to CBC. The change would hand the body greater independence along with potentially sweeping authority to push military purchases through faster.
CBC reports that the proposed overhaul could fundamentally reshape Canada's defence procurement system, which the broadcaster characterizes as "notoriously cumbersome." The plan also raises fresh questions about oversight, accountability and how far Ottawa is willing to go.
