The secretary general of the Andalusian PSOE, María Jesús Montero, has suffered a severe defeat in Córdoba in the party's primaries, according to the Spanish outlet ABC. The report describes Córdoba as the point from which a formation already battered by recent electoral setbacks — among them the especially painful result of 17 May — could begin to come apart.

Montero's preferred candidate to head the slate for the 2027 municipal elections was Victoria Fernández, whom she brought into her PSOE-A executive in February 2025 with the backing of Luis Planas and his circle. According to ABC, Fernández had failed to secure the unity her leader had called for and had to contend with two figures critical of the party's recent manoeuvres, among them José Antonio Romero.

ABC places the Córdoba contest in the wider context of a party it says is significantly weakened after a run of poor election results.
