A new project aimed at bringing Spanish jazz composing to audiences launches in Madrid this Sunday, according to ABC España. The initiative, named "Jazz en Red," is intended to showcase the work of the country's jazz authors.
Under the plan, a network of venues would allow for a steady programme of small and medium-format concerts, featuring musicians who live in Spain, from emerging artists to established ones, performing regularly across the whole country. Musicians' associations from different Autonomous Communities have come together to design the nationwide concert offering.
In the capital, the first artist to represent the project is Joshua Edelman, a New York pianist who has settled in Spain. He will present "Chet Baker y el mar," a show in which he recreates the style and repertoire of Chet Baker.
"Many friends from New York want to settle in Spain," Edelman said, in remarks published by ABC España.
