August Hanning, who spent years running Germany’s top spy agency and became known as “Mr Security”, has been arrested on suspicion of espionage and treason. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the former head of the BND, Germany’s foreign intelligence service, is suspected of selling state secrets.
According to the Herald, the case could amount to the most serious intelligence scandal Europe has seen in decades.
