Pat Cummins is expecting Steve Smith to deliver on Australia's Test tour of South Africa, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The trip marks Smith's first Test cricket in the country since the 2018 series, which the paper describes as infamous.
The captain, though, offered no certainty that his deputy would see out the whole schedule: 19 Tests spread over the coming 10 months.
That leaves unresolved the question the Herald poses over the tour — whether South Africa proves to be Smith's last set of Test matches.
