Christa Pike killed Colleen Slemmer in 1995, and Pike's execution in Tennessee was botched on Wednesday, according to The New York Times. In its account, the newspaper reported that Ms. Slemmer's mother remembers her daughter as a "vibrant and generous presence."
Last month, the family celebrated the birthday Ms. Slemmer would have marked — her 51st, The Times reported.
