More than a hundred people, including many residents of the Center, attended this Thursday afternoon the public sit-in that was organized in the Plaza Virgen de los Reyes in protest against the celebration, a week ago, of the Showcase Awards ceremony in this same place. One of the neighbors who did not want to be missing is the popular actress María Galiana, who lives on nearby Placentines Street: "I have not come to protest here for a specific event, but rather I have come to claim the squares of Seville, including San Lorenzo or Alfalfa, where I have not been able to have a coffee for a long time," she noted. «I have come to claim possible gatherings with my friends. Public space is being invaded and that is why I have come to claim it, because we Sevillians have come to God all our lives to drink coffee and now we can't," said the interpreter. Galiana regrets having seen last week a stage next to the Cathedral, which hosted the delivery of these controversial awards. «The last thing I had seen at the Puerta de los Palos was the Virgin of the Kings coming out. And then I saw a scenario. It's a blow, and I couldn't remedy it." Apart from the neighbors, some people who have joined the protest have also been seen, such as the former left-wing Unida leader Antonio Rodrigo Torrijos or the director of Viento Sur Teatro, Maite Lozano, among others. Some North American citizens who were having some refreshments also participated in this sit-in. Despite the high temperatures, the Plaza Virgen de los Reyes has been filled with people who have wanted to reclaim this place as a public space, like Carmen, a woman who has come with her husband and daughter from Seville East to show solidarity with the neighbors' protests.
