US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had struck an "energy ceasefire," offering no explanation of what the arrangement covers. In a short social media post, he wrote that the truce began with immediate effect and that both countries had signed on, adding: "Do not break it!"
According to Arab News, neither Moscow nor Kyiv responded publicly to the announcement at the time, and the White House did not elaborate on the president's message or release further particulars.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy then said Ukraine is prepared to commit to an energy ceasefire, but stressed that Russia must take the same step. Speaking in an address streamed live on Monday morning, he warned that Ukraine would respond if Moscow declined, CNBC reported.
The two statements leave the arrangement resting on public declarations, with Kyiv's participation framed as conditional on matching Russian action.
