Unusual vapors spotted at Mount Kawkab, close to the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakah, were most likely the product of human activity rather than seismic or tectonic processes, a joint technical committee concluded after examining the site.
The committee's findings were reported Wednesday by Syria's state news agency SANA, according to Arab News.
Experts from the National Earthquake Center and from the General Establishment of Geology and Mineral Resources at the Ministry of Energy took part in the inspection, the committee said.
