Being able to buy a home or pay the rent is what keeps Spaniards awake at night, according to the latest GAD3 survey carried out for ABC. The poll found that 64 percent of Spaniards — around six people in ten — see housing as the "main" problem currently facing the country.
That figure is far higher than the share worried about their own economic situation, which concerns only about a quarter of those surveyed, at 26 percent.
Housing also comes out ahead of other subjects that habitually shape public opinion in Spain, among them immigration, corruption and the way Pedro Sánchez's government is running the country. According to ABC, those issues are not cutting through on the street, which the paper says points to a deep disconnect between what society is actually debating and what institutions and those in power are talking about.
