Saudi Arabia is under pressure to rebuild its relationship with the United Arab Emirates over Yemen, The Guardian Middle East reports, with a reconciliation between the two Gulf states described as the cost Riyadh would have to accept to assemble a military alliance capable of driving Houthi forces back.
Both countries had lent support to forces fighting the Houthis in Yemen, but their cooperation there collapsed in January. The separatist Southern Transitional Council, a force aligned with the UAE, was attacked and defeated by Saudi Arabia in an operation meant to crush the council's effort to bring back a separate southern state.
Following that defeat, the UAE in effect left Yemen, leaving the two allies at odds.
