Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was detained by police on Wednesday during a demonstration directed at the country's election chief, according to Arab News. The protest unfolded as opposition parties escalated their campaign over a disputed revision of voter rolls.
Gandhi and other opposition lawmakers were marching toward Jantar Mantar, a site in the capital New Delhi set aside for demonstrations, when police halted them. A live feed carried on the YouTube channel of Gandhi's Congress party showed officers leading him into a vehicle and driving away, Arab News reported.
