The Pentagon has announced that the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq is now formally finished, according to The Guardian Middle East.
The completion of the pullout arrived two years after the withdrawal was agreed, and 12 years after the start of the US mission to fight the Islamic State.
President Donald Trump hailed what he called a "great day for America" and described the war as a "quagmire," the outlet reported.
Following the announcement, Iran and its allies marked the departure of US forces as a victory.
Iraqi security experts, however, are concerned that the withdrawal could give the Islamic State and other groups an opportunity to recover.
