Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said one of the pilots on a flight from the United Arab Emirates to Israel stabbed his co-pilot and appeared to attempt to bring the aircraft down. Israeli officials said they were looking into whether the episode was an attempted terror attack aimed at Israelis, according to The Guardian.
The flight, Flydubai Flight 1073, was bound for Tel Aviv from Dubai with roughly 180 passengers aboard when it was forced to divert, the Washington Post reported. It landed in Saudi Arabia after the emergency.
A statement from Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz international airport, commonly known as Tabuk airport, said both pilots were wounded while the remaining passengers were safe, The Guardian reported. The accused pilot is being questioned in Saudi Arabia.
CBS News reported that Israeli officials said passengers helped thwart what they called an "attempted jihadist terror attack" by a Flydubai pilot who is alleged to have stabbed a fellow cockpit crew member with the intent of crashing the plane.
