Search teams in Loeches, a municipality in the Madrid region, have spent close to a month picking through a landfill for the remains of Roberto Fernández, a resident of Torrejón de Ardoz who vanished at the start of September.
Roughly twenty officers are involved, according to the newspaper El País. They carve the dump into sections, machinery tears the rubbish apart layer by layer, and cadaver dogs alongside police officers working with rakes keep a close watch for any trace of the missing man.
The same routine has been repeated daily at the site for nearly a month on the suspicion that this is where the body ended up after the man was allegedly killed by his own son, who shares his first and last name.
The son is being held over the homicide and is also awaiting trial in connection with a separate murder, El País reports.
