The ruling junta in Guinea-Bissau has said that "the necessary security conditions" to "guarantee the return" of former president Umaro Sissoko Embalo "are not met," according to RFI. The military high command set out the assessment in a communiqué published on Thursday, October 1.
The statement ended the junta's silence three days after Embalo announced that he would stand in the presidential election scheduled for December 6 and that he would return to the country on Sunday, October 4.
