An incident involving FlyDubai has prompted Al-Monitor to look back at the long history of airline hijackings connected to the Middle East, extending across decades.
According to the outlet, that record begins in 1968, when the PFLP hijacked an El Al flight that was en route from Rome to Tel Aviv. Al-Monitor calls the seizure the "first political hijacking of an aircraft tied to the Middle East."
