Prosecutors in the United Arab Emirates say the flydubai co-pilot accused of trying to take control of a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was radicalised while he was a student in Australia. The Emirati attorney general said Hammam al-Hammami's shift towards extremism began during his time studying in Melbourne, The Guardian Middle East reported.
The alleged attempt took place on the 30 September service, which had 182 people on board as it flew towards Israel. According to the report, passengers and crew stepped in to stop the 29-year-old Omani national.
The attorney general's account of how the co-pilot became radicalised was made public on Friday, in a statement reported by The Guardian Middle East.
