Ethiopia said on Thursday, 1 October that it is closing its embassy in Asmara and ordering ten Eritrean diplomats to leave its territory, according to RFI. Addis Ababa's move came as it accused Eritrea of backing, directly and indirectly, an armed offensive that a newly formed anti-government alliance launched on 22 September.
Eritrea answered quickly, announcing that it was cutting diplomatic relations with Addis Ababa, RFI reported. The exchange of measures marks a further rise in tensions between the two neighbours.
