Squatters occupying number 39 Gürtelstrasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain hurled glass bottles, cobblestones and balloons filled with urine at officers who, acting on a court order, were trying to clear the way for construction workers, according to ABC España. Six people were arrested, and one of the workers is in hospital with a deep wound to the head.

“¡Berlín ha caído!” — “Berlin has fallen!” — the chant shouted by the squatters, the newspaper reported.

The occupants were emboldened by the radical left's victory in the German capital's regional elections. Once exit polls were published, it was clear that Die Linke was the most-voted party with 25%, and the phrase “Berlin has fallen!” spread widely on social media.
