A column published by ABC España takes its title and its subject from a line in Anne Carson's 'La belleza del marido.' The newspaper describes Carson as the new Nobel laureate, and notes that in the work she writes that living carries risks — love among them.

"Here is my advice: endure. Endure beauty."

That closing summons, as quoted by ABC, is what the columnist turns over. They write that they never fully worked out which sense of the verb Carson intends: a call to bear whatever beauty brings with it, a stoic and defeatist stance before the fatal lot of every human life, or simply a matter of putting up with beauty the way one puts up with "VAT, an idiot companion or a Monday morning."

The column raises one further possibility: that Carson means to safeguard beauty, in the sense of holding it up and advancing it. Read that way, the advice would no longer be stoic.
